The Magic of My School invited students aged 10 to 16 to investigate the histories hidden within their own schools. Using documents, photographs, magazines, objects, and oral testimonies, students reconstructed stories often absent from conventional history books.
Developed by Bichitra Pathshala in collaboration with Jadunath Bhavan Museum and Resource Center, the initiative brought together 25 schools from Kolkata and beyond. Students explored school archives, interviewed teachers and alumni, and traced how their institutions connected with the wider histories of Kolkata, Bengal and India. Their discoveries culminated in exhibitions featuring archival displays, installations, video projections, and live storytelling.
I worked on the project as a Communication Designer in collaboration with Bichitra Pathshala. My role was to build a coherent public identity for the initiative across its different points. I designed the publicity materials and website, worked on the project videos, and created illustrations for the final publication.
The communication had to make historical research feel inviting to young participants while retaining the seriousness of an archival project. A consistent visual language connected the workshops, digital presence, exhibitions, and publication, helping the students’ discoveries reach a wider public.
