Visions of Ray is a collection of artworks inspired by the extraordinary creative universe of Satyajit Ray. The series moves across his cinema and literature, revisiting the characters, stories, moods, and visual memories that have shaped generations of readers and viewers. Ray’s imagination extended far beyond the director’s chair. He was a writer, illustrator, graphic designer, calligrapher and composer who approached every creative form with a distinct visual intelligence. From the quiet humanism of his films to the mystery-filled worlds of Feluda and Professor Shonku, his work created images that continue to live in our collective memory.
These artworks are my personal interpretations of those creations. They don’t attempt to reproduce individual scenes or established imagery. Instead, I’ve drawn from their atmosphere, emotional character, and narrative details to imagine them through my own visual language. The collection brings Ray’s cinematic and literary worlds into a shared space. Familiar figures, fragments and visual references appear in new compositions, allowing each artwork to stand independently while remaining connected to its original inspiration.
Visions of Ray is a personal tribute from an artist, filmmaker, and lifelong admirer—an effort to revisit the worlds Ray created and explore why they continue to feel so immediate, intimate, and alive.
